The mission of NISHRM is to advance, through mutual and cooperative efforts, the knowledge, training, efficiency, expertise and ability of individual members in the profession of Human Resources.

NISHRM was formed in 1942 as the Lake County Employment Managers Association. The name was changed to NIAPA in 1979 when the group was chartered as the local Chapter of Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM). In 1990, the name was changed again to more accurately reflect the changes that had occurred in the HR profession, and in 1994, the NISHRM name was adapted to better reflect the affiliation with SHRM.

The individual members of NISHRM represent Lake and Northern Cook counties. Both industrial and service organizations, as well as HR consultants, are represented in the membership.

This project came to me through a customer referral, who was a NISHRM board member. In spring 2017, we were contacted by NISHRM board members to discuss the possibilities of a website re-design that could be tabled for the summer and fall months. In July, a project plan and strategy was developed, and signed off on. In August, the project commenced, and carried on through September and into October before finally concluding. It took us 4-6 weeks to fully complete the NISHRM website.

NISHRM’s request was to design an engaging events and memberships based website to present information and monthly programs for the HR professionals and members of the organization. In addition to events and programs advertising & marketing, another requirement of the website is to be able to market the organization to prospective members in order to attract and register new joining members – including individual and corporate members, and sponsors.

For the design, we built with an events-based WordPress theme, that showcases and prioritizes an events calendar with payment and registration functions. To give the website its memberships functionality, and to administer membership accounts, we partnered with Paid Memberships Pro, a WordPress specific program that offers unlimited membership levels and user accounts, accepts annual and recurring payments, membership registrations, protected member account, and member management solutions. Paid Memberships Pro controls the entire memberships function and portion of this website.

NISHRM’s current website replaced an outdated, and non-engaging memberships website operated through Star-Chapter. This is the second memberships-based website I have ever designed and constructed.
